Emeritus Prof. Clifford L. Pelletier
c/o Department of Computer Science
Central Connecticut State University
New Britain, CT 06050
It can take a month or more for snail mail to reach me.
My professional interests include operating systems, networks, computer security, object oriented programming, computer law and the impact of computers and technology on society. During my career, I taught almost all of the courses offered by the department.
My ancestor, Guillaume Pelletier, was one of the early settlers of Quebec. He came to North America in 1641, arriving at Beauport near what is now Quebec City.
Pelletier is one of the 10 most common surnames in Quebec. It is also common in New England due to significant French-Canadian immigration. More than half of those in the United States and Canada with the Pelletier surname trace their ancestry back to Guillaume Pelletier. Most of the remaining Pelletiers trace their ancestry back to three other Pelletiers who came to "New France" in the 17th and 18th centuries.
I started at CCSU in 1976, the same year the computer science major was introduced. At that time, computer science was a program within the Department of Applied Mathematics. The CS major remained in mathematics through various organizational and name changes until 1989, when a separate Department of Computer Science was established. I served, from then until 1995, as the first chair of that department. I retired in 2003.
