After completing this tutorial, you should be able to write your own World Wide Web home page. The tutorial assumes you are working on a computer running MS Windows, but Mac and UNIX users may also find it helpful. You will need more than the PostScript source or the printed version of the tutorial. The tutorial assumes that you have an image file called halley.gif available. This image file is also included in the distribution. Files in the Distribution: halley.ps.Z - The compressed PostScript source for the printed version of the tutorial. halley.gif - An image file containing a portrait of Sir Edmond Halley in .gif format. README.doc - This README file. Instructions for Downloading: You should be able to download this tutorial simply by clicking on the appropriate underlined text in your Web browser, and then selecting your browser's SAVE option. You need to download and save ALL 3 FILES, this README.doc file, the compressed PostScript file, and the accompanying .gif file. You should save the compressed PostScript file as halley.ps or halley.ps.Z (if your system allows it), and you should save the .gif file as halley.gif. Instructions for Decompressing: The halley.ps or halley.ps.Z file must be decompressed before it can be printed. On a UNIX system, simply type uncompress halley.ps.Z on the command line. On a DOS system, you should be able to decompress the file with any version of zip. Simply type your_favorite_version_of_unzip halley.ps on the command line, or use a version of WinZip. On a MacIntosh, you should be able to decompress the file with any version of Stuffit. Simply drag the file halley.ps.Z onto the Stuffit icon, or open halley.ps.Z from within Stuffit.
