CCSU Spring 2001 General Project Instructions Course: CS 460 Posting Date: March 19, 2001 General: (1) There are two projects. See the course Web page for project descriptions. (2) You will form teams of two to work on the projects. The teams will be named teamA, teamB, etc., etc. (3) It is alright to discuss your projects with other teams, it is alright to get advice from other teams, but you MAY NOT work cooperatively with other teams. (4) You MUST follow the specifications as given in the project descriptions. (5) Some projects will require reports (see below). Some projects will require demonstrations (see below). Project Reports: (1) For each project, you MUST hand in a typed and stapled project report containing (a) A title page with YOUR NAMES on it, plus project title (eg. Project 2: Building a Database), course number (Computer Science 460), semester (eg. Spring 2001), date, and software used (eg. MySql running on a linux server and MySqlJavaClient running locally). (A pure design project will probably have "None" under software used.) (b) A typed description of your project written in proper English. Your description should include at least one introductory paragraph, together with any other items specified in the project description. (2) For each project, hand in ONLY ONE PROJECT REPORT with the names of BOTH TEAM MEMBERS on it. Do NOT hand in separate project reports for each team member. (3) As project reports probably do not need to include floppy disks, they normally do not need to be submitted in a folder, as long as they are TYPED AND STAPLED as indicated above. Demonstrations: (1) Some project descriptions will specify specify that you demonstrate your project to me. Demonstrations are to be done on a computer (normally in the room 208 laboratory) with me and both team members present. (2) You are to pretend that I am your boss at Fly By Night Consulting, LLC. We are doing work for Mammoth Industries Inc, and you are the Fly By Night team assigned to do the work. Your demonstration is to sell me, AND MY BOSS, on the worth of your work, and on your ability to make a presentation to the Chief Information Officer of Mammoth Industries. Above all, you do not want to make me look bad in front of my boss, so you cannot afford to fumble around as you carry out your demonstration. (3) You will have to explain things orally to me as you go along. I will ask questions, but you cannot depend on me to guide you through your demo by asking. You must prepare a suitable presentation. BE WELL PREPARED. Come in with a WRITTEN OUTLINE so you know what you are going to do or say next. Thoroughly rehearse your demonstration ahead of time.
